- GigaOm’s fascinating diagram of industry share of smartphones fascinates me for a few reasons It’s easy if you’re in the UK to assume that all the early adopters are using Nokia phones. Obviously that’s challenged by the iPhone, but the different in take-up between Europe and the US is extraordinary.

Wow, that’s quite an eye-opener. Having left a former US employer for a variety of reasons including appalling work/life balance, it doesn’t surprise me that the insidious BlackBerry has such a high market share in North America.
Casting my eyes around a London train carriage recently, I saw more BlackBerrys than I was expecting. I feared the encroachment of the always-available mentality upon British culture. Glad to see that the figures don’t support this.
I seem to have turned the BlackBerry into some kind of totem for everything I dislike about modern workplace culture. Slightly irrational – it’s just a tool, after all – but I was very happy to give mine back 18 months ago 🙂
